With expected Hollywood earnings of $120 million cut by a hefty projected loss of 25% thanks to Hurricane Irene, “The Help” held onto the top spot at the box office during a dismally slow start to the weekend of August 26-28, 2011. The Emma Stone starring book-based picture, which has been perched atop the movie money-making list for the third straight week, pulled in $4.2 million on Friday while trending towards a weekend total of $13.5 million.
You never know what you’re gonna get on “Conan,” and last night (August 1) Harrison Ford shared his feelings about competing against “Smurfs.” Given that his own movie “Cowboys and Aliens” debuted this past weekend against the animated blue creatures, the “Indiana Jones” actor sounded dismayed when he admitted his son went for the “Smurfs.” And when Conan asked Ford how he felt about his boy contributing money to the “Smurfs” weekend box office take, Harrison deadpanned, “We’re going to try and get [the money] back.” A few moments later, O’Brien presented Harrison with a stuffed Papa Smurf doll, which Ford promptly decapitated.
It was quite the holiday weekend for Bradley Cooper and the boys- their sequel “The Hangover Part II” posted record numbers in ticket sales. From Friday until Sunday, the flick brought in $86 million making it the biggest opening ever for a live-action comedy. Since its Thursday debut, Part II has totaled $117 million, putting it just behind “The Matrix Reloaded” in the Rated-R realm.

The bunny-based picture starring Russell Brand and James Marsden did well for itself while pulling in an estimated $38.1 million in ticket sales.
Making for another tight battle for the top spot, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules” ended up snatching the pole position at the weekend box office from March 25-27, 2011.
Looking to bring in the bucks over the holiday weekend, “The Green Hornet” took over the top box office spot over the weekend of January 14-16, 2011.
Always accompanying the holiday season is a spectacular lineup of new movies and this year, “Little Fockers” seems to be taking the cake. The film grossed $7.2 million from 3,536 theaters on Thursday which brings its two-day total to $14.4 million
