Adding to the already star-studded cast of the Superman reboot, Russell Crowe is reportedly in talks to play the father of the “Man of Steel.” According to Variety, the 47-year-old is currently in negotiations to play the superhero’s dad, Jor-El. The role of the ill-fated father was famously played by Marlon Brando in the 1978 classic. It all started when Eli and Russell — who often tease each other on Twitter — were joking about circumcision. Crowe tweeted, “I love my Jewish friends. I love the apple and the honey and the funny little hats but stop cutting yr babies,” adding, “I’ll take attentive parenting over barbarism.” Apparently a reporter from The Hollywood Reporter saw the exchange and went after Russell with a headline that said he “insults Jews.” Eli tells TMZ, “The headline blatantly attempts to make Russell look like an anti-Semite. It’s tabloid journalism at its worst.” Eli adds, “No one contacted either of us. It’s terrible. Russell is a great person and respectful of all religions.” And, Eli says, “The press is trying to terrify celebrities into not using Twitter. They want to show they can still ruin you. Continuing to dominate at the box office, it looks like “Iron Man 2” will remain in the number one box office spot this weekend. According to early projections, the film is expected to beat out new film “Robin Hood” which earned about 14 million on Friday (May 14).
It’s one of the most-anticipated films of the season, and earlier today (May 12) “Robin Hood” made its 2010 Cannes Film Festival premiere.
