Focused on his passion to help the ongoing Haiti relief efforts, Sean Penn participated in a discussion at the Brooking Institution in Washington, D.C. on Monday (January 10). The discussion was focused on the current situation in Haiti, one year after the devastating earthquake had hit the Caribbean nation
The Producers Guild Awards are coming up on January 22nd, and Sean Penn is slated to receive a special honor. The “Mystic River” stud will be given the 2011 Stanley Kramer Award as part of the festivities to be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The award is to honor Penn’s achievements and contributions that have illuminated provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion.
Getting back to work on his latest project, Sean Penn was on location for “This Must Be The Place” in New York City on Wednesday afternoon (October 20). Dressed in drag for his Cheyenne character, the Paolo Sorrentino directed film is about “a bored, retired rock star setting out to find his father’s executioner, an ex-Nazi war criminal who is a refugee in the U.S.” Aside from his theatrical efforts, Mr Penn recently received a welcome donation to his Sean Penn’s J/P Haitian Relief Organization thanks to former President Bill Clinton and his Clinton Foundation. Clinton dished out $500,000 to help with Penn’s Haiti relief efforts, with Sean releasing a statement of thanks reading: “The support of President Clinton and the Clinton Foundation is an extraordinary boost in our organization’s ability to continue its work in Haiti.
He was passionate in his play to get on the Presidential ballot in Haiti, and though he was unsuccessful, Wyclef Jean isn’t content to sit back and let his critics get the best of him. The Fugees rapper took aim at Sean Penn , who was very vocal in dismissing Wyclef’s presidential bid, during an interview over the weekend. Wyclef declared, “I got a message for Sean Penn: Maybe he ain’t see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine.” As for his former bandmate Pras, Jean said, “I got a message for Praswell, even though you don’t want to support me, I got love for you, even though you only kicked 8 bars in the Fugees.”

Co-starring Frances McDormand, Harry Dean Stanton and Shea Whigham, “This Must Be The Place” is about “a bored, retired rock star who sets out to find his father’s executioner, an ex-Nazi war criminal who is a refugee in the U.S.” Meanwhile, Mr Penn is fresh off of celebrating his 50th birthday last week – during which time he enjoyed a celebratory meal with U2 rocker Bono.
