Having flown to his native land for an election trip, Wyclef Jean is recovering after having been shot in the hand in Haiti on Saturday night (March 19). Describing the wounds as superficial, the former Fugees musician’s publicist Cindy Tanenbaum has since told CNN, “He is doing well.” As for the incident, insiders tell that Jean’s car had come under attack and was peppered with bullets as he was being driven through the city of Port-au-Prince with hip-hop pal Busta Rhymes and record executive Jimmy Rosemond. He had high hopes of becoming President of Haiti and helping his homeland flourish, but now Wyclef Jean has dropped out of the race.
He was passionate in his play to get on the Presidential ballot in Haiti, and though he was unsuccessful, Wyclef Jean isn’t content to sit back and let his critics get the best of him. The Fugees rapper took aim at Sean Penn , who was very vocal in dismissing Wyclef’s presidential bid, during an interview over the weekend. Wyclef declared, “I got a message for Sean Penn: Maybe he ain’t see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine.” As for his former bandmate Pras, Jean said, “I got a message for Praswell, even though you don’t want to support me, I got love for you, even though you only kicked 8 bars in the Fugees.”
